Midland Park Public Schools The summer has been very busy as I and the curriculum office secretary, Mrs. Susan Schlosser, have been preparing for the new academic year. Now that the 2011-2012 academic year is upon us, we look forward to working directly with parents, teachers, administrators and students. Collectively, our community can make an enormous positive difference in the lives of our children by helping them acquire the 21st Century and college and career readiness skills that they will need in order to succeed as life-long learners.
The year ahead will be important as the curriculum office works in tandem with others in the school community to improve academic outcomes for Midland Park students. The school district has already begun utilizing student assessment tools that will provide Midland Park K-12 educators with student baseline and formative skill development data. This will help us tailor and differentiate instruction to the specific needs of our children. Further, the district is also committed to providing teachers with ongoing professional development resources and in fostering a collaborative learning environment. Recently, several of our teachers have also aligned our K2 ELA and K8 Math curriculum to the new National Common Core State Standards (CCSS). In so doing, teachers have begun to ensure that our instruction continues to be rigorous and is in compliance with state and Federal law. The CCSS alignment work will continue throughout the K12 academic program.
The curriculum office door is always open, and Susan and I look forward to getting to know the Midland Park community. Should you have any questions about district curriculum, instruction, or assessment, please do not hesitate to contact our office at (201) 444 – 7400, x 232.
