All Midland Park Continuing Education sponsored after school children’s workshops are held on Tuesdays at the Godwin School from 3:15-4:15.

If your child regularly attends After School Child Care on Tuesday, they should first report to the Godwin School gym for attendance, they will then be sent to the workshop at 3:15.  When the session is over, the children will return to the gym to continue After School Child Care.  The children that do not attend After School Child Care will be dismissed at a designated door promptly at 4:15.

The following classes are offered by Farm Chicks www.Farmchicks.com. Critter Care is an educational program that teaches how to love and be responsible for animals!  In each workshop the children will get a hands-on experience with a new animal that will come to visit them. Children will learn about the basic needs of that particular species along with some fun and interesting facts.  Each session will end with a fun related craft or game to get students excited about what they have just learned. All material fees included

HIPPITY HOP(RABBIT WEEK)   FEE: $25

Hop on in for some fun! Kids will attend a hands on presentation on a rabbit. They will learn how to keep a bunny as a happy and healthy pet.

 

KEEP CALM AND CLUCK! (CHICKEN WEEK)          FEE: $25
Tuesday, 3:15-4:15 (October 2)

Chickens can make fun pets! Kids will learn all about having backyard chickens. We will cover the process of how chickens eggs are laid and hatched.

 

YOU ARE TURTLEY AWESOME! (TURTLE WEEK)         FEE: $25
Tuesday, 3:15-4:15 (October 9)

What’s in that shell? This week students will learn the difference between a turtle and a tortoise. We will cover why some animals live in the water while others live on ground. We will learn how to feed and care for a pet tortoise.

This week students will learn all about this common friendly pet. We will cover proper care and diet.

Students will learn about domestic and wild ducks. The unique qualities that ducks have to survive in the wild. Come feel some feathers and webbed duck feet!

 

 

JR. WOODWORKING

 

The following classes are offered by Nicole Hermann, Experience Teacher’s Aide who has  been teaching after school workshops for  over 10 years in the surrounding community areas. All material fees included.

Tuesday, 3:15-4:15 (October 30)

Kids will learn about the basics of woodworking while they have fun sanding, painting, and decorating a large wooden candy corn for Halloween.

 

FUN WOOD BOAT FEE: $25
Tuesday, 3:15-4:15 (November 6)

Kids will have fun learning about the basics of woodworking while they sand and paint their own toy boat that can float on water.

 

CREATIVE WOODEN CRAYON HOLDER      FEE: $25
Tuesday, 3:15-4:15 (November 13)

Kids will get creative and learn to make a wooden crayon holder by sanding, painting, and stenciling their own crayon holder that will be able to hold crayons, pens, and pencils.

 

WOODEN THANKFUL SIGN      FEE: $25
Tuesday, 3:15-4:15 (November 20)

Kids will get ready for Thanksgiving by making a decorative thankful sign. They will sand create, and paint their own sign for the holiday.

 

WOODEN WINTER HOLIDAY TREES FEE: $25

Kids will have fun celebrating the upcoming winter by making their own wooden trees. They will sand, paint, and add a touch of snow to make their winter wooden trees realistic.

Winter is here and as we wait and hope for a snow day we will be making some white snowman pizzas finished off with some edible ingredients to make our snowman faces! We will also make a snowman pop to enjoy as a snack in class! Let it snow!!

 

EDIBLE WREATH MAKING       FEE: $25

We will be using ingredients like kale, leafy greens, mozzarella balls, cherry tomatoes and more to creative a festive Edible Wreath! Who said playing with your veggies wasn’t fun!?

 

GINGERBREAD HOUSE MAKING WORKSHOP       FEE: $25
Tuesday, 3:15-4:15 (December 18)

Back by popular demand our Gingerbread houses made of graham crackers and lots of sweet treats is always a big hit! We will be making edible snowman, trees covered in snow, and of course decorating their houses with lots of colorful candy! Kids have total creative control in this awesome workshop!

 

LET IT SNOW!        FEE: $25        Tuesday, 3:15-4:15 (January 8)

In this Chef It Up 2 Go workshop we will have a blast making some Winter themed treats like snowball powder truffles and an edible hot cocoa mug complete with a yummy chocolate filling and topped with mini marshmallows!

 

HOT COCOA WORKSHOP          FEE: $25
Tuesday, 3:15-4:15 (January 15)

Nothing is better that a cup of hot cocoa on a snow day! In this workshop we will be creating our very own layered hot cocoa mix in mason jars to bring home to give as a gift or save for the next SNOW DAY! Complete with handwritten directions and wrapped up with ribbon!

 

POLAR PLUNGE    FEE: $25

In this workshops we will be creation adorable polar bear cookies which might even be too cute to eat! We also will be enjoying a frosty drink to enjoy in class!

Slippery, slimy, and stretchy! We are jumping into the world of polymers, which are all

things stretchy!! Find out what things you use every day are actually polymers, as you pull, stretch, bend, and yank!! Join us as we stretch it out with gooey slime!!

 

LIGHTS…COLOR…ACTION!    FEE: $25
Tuesday, 3:15-4:15 (February 26)

Join as we explore the inner workings of light and brighten up your knowledge! Build your very own Newton color wheel and attend a fantastic chemical energy display! Then we will heat things up as we dive into fire and soar with indoor fireworks!! This class will wow, and amaze you! Join as we lighten things up with Lights...Color...Action!!!

 

MAGNETIC MAGIC!         FEE: $25
Tuesday, 3:15-4:15 (March 5)

You will be drawn to this class!!!!! We will investigate the magic of magnets withexperiments guaranteed to grab your attention. Make your own compass using iron fillings to and let it lead you to testing for magnetic fields and building an electro-magnet!! Don’t put that compass down just yet; you will need it as you take home your very own Magnetic Maze!! Join us, as we explore in magnetic magnitude!!!!!!

 

INCREDIBLE ILLUSIONS!          FEE: $25

In this class you will need to keep all of your wits as we explore optical illusions! Build your very own periscope, while learning how the human mind works, reflect on what you have learned as you watch images shape shift before your very eyes! Can this class be for real? Or is it all in your mind? Lets’ find out!

CRAZY WIRE SCULPTURE!       FEE: $25
Tuesday, 3:15-4:15 (March 19)

Crazy Wire Sculpture - Join us at as we create a 3D freestanding sculpture! We will be exploring elements of balance, shape, form, and color as we design our artwork. Students will use wire, and clay to complete their sculptures!

 

CHINESE PAPER LANTERN!     FEE: $25
Tuesday, 3:15-4:15 (March 26)

We will learn about the importance of lanterns and review traditional decorations. Students will then design their own Lanterns and experience the application of watercolor to a three dimensional object.

 

PERSONAL PUZZLE!        FEE: $25
Tuesday, 3:15-4:15 (April 2)           

Join us as we create a functional and unique piece of art! Each student will design their own puzzle which they will then take home to use for years to come!

 

OIL RESIST PAINTING!   FEE: $25
Tuesday, 3:15-4:15 (April 9)           

The Science behind Art. Since oil and water do not mix we are going to apply this to a painting! We will explore using oil pastels with watercolor and see what masterpieces we can create!

 

SALT PAINTING!   FEE: $25
Tuesday, 3:15-4:15 (April 23)

Join us as we explore with an everyday element - salt! A dash of salt can change the flavor of any dish - a dash of salt on a painting can add texture, a tie-dye effect, and a unique physical change.

 

DANCE and TUMBLE

 

The following classes are offered by The Joy of Motion. In these fun and exciting classes, students will work on movement combinations that will challenge their minds and bodies and will explore a wide variety of skills including dance, gymnastics, balance beam, rhythmic play, creative expression, and the use of toys and props! Instructors will work with the students to enhance their strength, flexibility, coordination, muscle control, and self-expression through dance, gymnastics, music and rhythm. This program is designed with the children in mind and places as much emphasis on bolstering confidence and self-esteem as it does on improving gross motor skills. All material fees included.

 

CIRCUS FUN!          FEE: $25
Tuesday, 3:15-4:15 (April 30)

In this class, we will practice our Circus performance skills as we try our hands at tumbles and tight rope (balance beam) walking, leap and jump over the circus’s most lovable (stuffed) animals, and even clown around with some scarf juggling!

 

A SAFARI ADVENTURE!             FEE: $25
Tuesday, 3:15-4:15 (May 7)

Explore the African jungle while we move and groove to the jungle beat, emulate the movements of wild animals, and travel through rivers and over bridges (balance beam).

 

AHOY MATEY!       FEE: $25
Tuesday, 3:15-4:15 (May 14)          

Set sail as a pirate for a class that is sure to be a splash!  Its treasure we’re after!  We may encounter some obstacles as we chart our course, but we won’t give up!  Will we find the treasure before the class is over?  Either way, we’ll have fun trying as we move our bodies to pirate songs and enjoy the rhythm of the ocean.
