All Midland Park Continuing Education sponsored after school children’s workshops are held on Tuesdays at the Godwin School from 3:05-4:05 p.m.

If your child regularly attends After School Child Care on Tuesday, they should first report to the Godwin School gym for attendance. Students will then join the workshop at 3:05 p.m.  When the session is over, the students will return to the gym to continue After School Child Care.  The children that do not attend After School Child Care will be dismissed at a designated door promptly at 4:05 pm. The following After School Children’s Workshops are subject to change. MPCE will send out notification of any changes or cancellations.

Critter Care is an educational program that teaches  How to love and be responsible for animals!  In each workshop the children.  Will get a hands on experience with a new animal that will come to visit them.  Children will learn about the basic needs of that particular species along with some.   Fun and interesting facts.  Each session will end with a fun related craft or game to get students excited about what they have just learned. All material fees included

In this weeks workshop we will cover the needs of pet reptiles.  This class will include temperature requirements and special dietary needs.

As more and more people are keeping backyard chickens we will discuss the basic needs of chicken keeping.  This friendly bird can be a great family pet.

This week we will learn about the basic needs of the friendly household pet.

 

CAN DUCKS FLY?  (Duck Week)   FEE: $25

Students will learn the difference between domestic and wild ducks.  We will discuss how wild duck live throughout the winter in our climate and many interesting fun duck facts.

 

WHERE DO RABBITS GO IN THE WINTER? (Rabbit Week)     FEE: $25

As fall approaches, we will discuss how to keep our furry pets happy and warm throughout the winter season.

Airplane Pilots            FEE: $25

You’ll learn the science of how to build and actually fly a high-soaring model such as the dragonfly or the sky bird. How far will yours go? How high will it climb? Why does it fly? AIRPLANE ENGINEERS      FEE: $25

Do you question how a machine as heavy as an airplane can fly? Does testing the limits of your model airplane intrigue you? If you answered yes, then you are qualified to be an Airplane Engineer! You’ll use this newly-learned knowledge to build the Iron bird and then fly it in the ultimate test flight. Build it!  Fly it!  Keep it!

 

AIRPLANE BUILDERS - TWIN SKIES      FEE: $25        

Tuesday, 3:05-4:05 (November 12)  

Can you build it? Yes, you can! You will build the Twin Skies plane. Learn what makes your plane lift off and continue to fly. But don’t let the physics fool you! You’ll learn a great deal, while having an amazing time flying your model plane. Build it! Fly it! Keep it!

Join this class and become a top trendsetter in school, when you show off your fashionable creativity and individual style. You will create a bag/clutch – all made just by you! Get ready design world – here you come!  Design it! Create it! Model it! Keep it!

Creating chic designs has never been more fun. We’ll teach you all you need to know about garment design and creation, from choosing a design and sketching, to final fitting!  Suitable for beginner to advanced sewers, this semester we will create a skirt.  All designs are yours to keep at the end of class! Design it! Create it! Model it! Keep it!

 

FASHION FORWARD       FEE: $25        

Tuesday, 3:05-4:05 p.m. (November 12)                  

You can create one-of-a-kind wearable shirt of your very own and make your design dreams a reality. This class is suitable for beginner to advanced-level designers, as we will be sewing by hand! All designs are yours to keep at the end of class! Design it! Create it! Model it! Keep it!

In this class we will discover how most inventions are accidental.  Also, in this class we will see which of our most prized possessions came about by accident!  Then we will become inventors ourselves as we design our own inventions!  You are only limited by what you can imagine with Invention-Ation.

Join Bernoulli and Newton as we take this exciting look at the science behind aerodynamics and the properties of air…Under pressure.  Use a vortex generator to create air pockets with a punch, and levitate ping-pong balls in defiance of gravity!

Tuesday, 3:05-4:05 (February 4)

In this class we will get downright Wacky with Waves!  We use water every day and it is the source of all life.  In this exciting class, we will learn the importance of our water and how to keep our oceans clean!  Through these fun filled hands-on activities, from helping out Eggbert and Meg in a float or sink scenario, to stacking up some density. Join us as we get wacky with waves!

Kids will learn about the basics of woodworking while they have fun sanding, painting, and decorating a wooden heart for Valentine’s Day!

 

FUN WOODEN PEG GAMES!        FEE: $25

Tuesday, 3:05-4:05 (February 25)

Kids will learn how to make a classic peg game out of wood. They will sand and paint the board and pegs and then have fun playing it.

 

HEDGEHOG COLORED PENCIL HOLDERS!      FEE: $25

Tuesday, 3:05-4:05 (March 3) 

Kids will get creative and learn to make a wooden hedgehog pencil holder by sanding and painting their own holder for both pencils and colored pencils.

Kids will get ready for Spring by making a decorative Welcome sign. They will sand, design, and paint their own sign to take home.

Kids will learn the basics of woodworking by sanding their own lucky four leaf clover for St. Patrick’s Day! Afterwards they will paint it to use as a decoration for the holiday.

In these fun and exciting classes, students will work on becoming a good Magician with the use of cards, rope, money, sponges, balloons and many other materials!  Maryann Greco, an experienced magician with over 35 years of experience will work with the students to enhance their magic skills through practice, practice, practice!   Every child will learn and go home with an exciting new magic trick each workshop! A flower can be made to appear quickly, or to grow slowly, it can also be vanished. How? MAGIC!!

Tuesday, 3:05-4:05 (March 31)

Lollipops is a sweet effect that really keeps ‘em guessing. Magician shows an unprepared brown paper bag. He reaches in and pulls out a red lollipop replacing this, he pulls out a lime lollipop this is replaced with 2 more lollipop flavors. When he hands the bag too his audience they all have vanished. How did that happen? MAGIC!!

 

MAGIC WITH CARDS!        FEE: $25

Tuesday, 3:05-4:05 (April 14)               

The performer displays three cards in a fan, two spot cards with one picture card between them. The fan is turned face down, and a spectator is asked to select the picture card. The other 2 cards are displayed and...you’ll find out with this unique magic trick that has various versions. Now That’s Magic!!!

 

MAGIC WITH CUPS AND BALLS!            FEE: $25

Tuesday, 3:05-4:05 (April 21)     

A ball appears under a cup, push a ball through a solid cup’s bottom, balls jump from one cup to another, balls appear from nowhere. How’s it done? You already know the answer..Magic!!

The following classes are offered by: The Joy of Motion

 

In these fun and exciting classes, students will work on movement combinations that will challenge their minds and bodies and will explore a wide variety of skills including dance, gymnastics, balance beam, rhythmic play, creative expression, and the use of toys and props!  Instructors will work with the students to enhance their strength, flexibility, coordination, muscle control, and self-expression through dance, gymnastics, music and rhythm. This program is designed with the children in mind and places as much emphasis on bolstering confidence and self-esteem as it does on improving gross motor skills. All material fees included

 

 CIRCUS FUN!

In this class, we will practice our Circus performance skills as we try our hands at tumbles and tight rope (balance beam) walking, leap and jump over the circus’s most lovable (stuffed) animals, and even clown around with some scarf juggling!

 

A SAFARI ADVENTURE!

Explore the African jungle while we move and groove to the jungle beat, emulate the movements of wild animals, and travel through rivers and over bridges (balance beam) along our journey!

 

AHOY MATEY!

Tuesday, 3:05-4:05 (April 14)            FEE: $25

Set sail as a pirate for a class that is sure to be a splash!  Its treasure we’re after!  We may encounter some obstacles as we chart our course, but we won’t give up!  Will we find the treasure before the class is over?  Either way, we’ll have fun trying as we move our bodies to pirate songs and enjoy the rhythm of the ocean. 

 

DINO DANCE!

Tuesday, 3:05-4:05 (April 21)            FEE: $25

Get ready to rock and roll with the dinosaurs as we sing and dance to dino themed songs, practice moving like different dinosaurs (two feet, four feet, simmers and flyers), and take care of dinosaurs at our own dino zoo!  We’ll finish the class with a dinosaur marching parade!
