MARCH 2020 MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT

Dear Midland Park Parents/Guardians and Community Members,

CO-VID 19The continued news coverage with regard to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) has increased as the number of those infected is on the rise in some countries.  We encourage you to ensure best practices with regard to hygiene are being followed during this season, including:  Children who are ill should not return to school until they are fever-free without medication for a period of at least 24 hours; avoid contact with people who are ill, do not touch your eyes, mouth, or nose, and cover coughs and sneezes; be sure to frequently wash your hands with warm water and soap; and seek guidance from your doctor should health issues arise.  We are grateful that New Jersey’s public school districts receive advisement from both the New Jersey Department of Education and the state’s Department of Health as we monitor this serious health issue.  As stated in my previous health update of January 31st, please be assured district administrators continue to closely monitor Coronavirus information, as well as outbreaks of the flu in our schools.  Our custodial team has increased cleaning and disinfecting efforts and principals are monitoring student and staff absences and causes on a daily basis.  Please do not hesitate to contact us with your questions or concerns at any time.  For additional information, please review the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) website at:  www.cdc.gov

Drowsy ChapeoneIt’s that toe-tapping time of year again and everyone is excited for MPHS’s annual spring musical!  This year’s production is The Drowsy Chaperone, with book by Bob Martin and Don McKellar and music and lyrics by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison, and directed by our very own Mrs. Donna Halliwell.  The show is a parody of 1920’s American musical comedy and concerns a middle-aged, asocial musical theatre fan.  As he plays the record of his favorite musical, the fictional 1928 hit The Drowsy Chaperone, the show comes to life onstage, as he wryly comments on the music, story, and actors. Be sure to mark your calendars for what promises to be another amazing MPHS production: March 27th, 28th, and 29th.

On behalf of all in our district, please accept my best wishes for a happy and healthy month.

Dr. Marie Cirasella, Ed. D.

Midland Park Designated as “High Performing” via QSAC

We’re pleased to provide this information with regard to the NJQSAC process. By way of review, NJQSAC stands for New Jersey’s Quality Single Accountability Continuum and is the NJDOE’s monitoring and evaluation system for public school districts. QSAC evaluates districts through a single comprehensive accountability process that consolidates and incorporates the monitoring requirements of applicable state laws and programs and complements federally-required improvements. Through QSAC, districts are monitored according to five components that have been identified as key factors in effective school districts: Instruction & Program, Operations, Governance, Fiscal, and Personnel.

NJDOE has streamlined the QSAC process for select districts and we were pleased note that a state review of our submitted indicators resulted in a “High Performing District” designation.  Subsequently, the Midland Park School District was eligible to submit an equivalency application to waive completion of the time-consuming QSAC monitoring.  NJ Commissioner of Education Kimberly Harrington has advised us that the waiver has been approved and the Midland Park district will maintain its high performing status for a period of three years.  We plan to use the time and resources provided through this initiative to support continued best practices in the five QSAC areas.

We wish to acknowledge the amazing contributions of district staff: administration, instructional, support, and buildings and grounds personnel, and our Board of Education, students, and school families, for their valued contributions to this well-deserved designation.
